Vineyard Area
55 Hectares of which 4 Hectares were selected for the production of the Le Page de Vignelaure blend.
Dates of Harvest
10 thof September to 15th of October.
Climatic Conditions
The winter was exceptionally mild with very few days of frost. Once again, the weather was very dry throughout the time the vines were resting.
The very early budburst at the beginning of April was followed by an especially wet spring. The blessed rain made for rapid growth with no stress.
Flowering was early – at the start of June- in very good weather conditions.
The summer temperatures in 2007 were really cool, with a lot of wind and no rain.
A few storms at the end of August were very welcome and helped the grapes to ripen well.
The harvest started on 10 September and took place in ideally cool and dry weather. It finished on 15 October and augurs well for a truly grand vintage.
Grape Varieties
Cabernet Sauvignon 90% and Merlot 10%.
Soil
Limestone and clay mixed with gravel. The 56 Hectares of vineyard cover three distinct areas whose varying proportions of limestone, clay and gravel produce grapes with distinctly different characteristics.
Yield
For the vineyard as a whole: 32 Hl/Ha. For the parcels selected for the production of Le Page Red, the average yield was 28 Hl / Ha.
Vinification
Grapes harvested by hand.
All grapes de-stemmed and lightly crushed.
Varieties and parcels vinified separately with a different vinification program for each tank.
Specially selected yeasts for the different varieties to emphasise desired characteristics.
Vinification at lower temperatures to emphasize fruit flavours.
Temperature-controlled fermentation in stain-less steel tanks for average seven days.
Ageing partly in oak barrels for 12 months and awhite egg fining prior the bottling.
